Farringdon to Exmouth Market – Monks, Marx, Markets
Starting at Farringdon Station, this walk will take you back to the 12th century when the Knights of St John of Jerusalem owned a great part of the land and property in Clerkenwell. But this area north of Farringdon was also home to the Huguenots, religious, refugees from France in the 18th century, who introduced new skills to the area including gin distilling, printing and watch making. In the 19th and 20th century it was a meeting place from reformers and revolutionaries. This walk, through the streets and alleyways of Clerkenwell, will reveal much about our political and social history. It ends at Exmouth market where there is a plethora of small eating places and trendy shops.
