Livery Companies and the Thames, Lifeblood of the City

Livery Companies and the Thames, Lifeblood of the City

Explore the banks of the River Thames, described as “liquid history”, with its network of alleyways, wharfs and hidden livery halls. Our walk along the banks of the Thames explores the river’s association with the City’s powerful livery companies. Hear about the pageantry of the LM’s show accompanied by the Livery Companies’ rich barges and the pitched battles as Liveries fought for prominent positions on the water. Visit some of the fascinating traditions that are still enacted for all to enjoy. Picture the frost fairs as we make our way past livery halls and City Churches tucked away in hidden alleyways, finishing at the steps of St Paul’s Cathedral.
