Livery Companies - History and Traditions

Medieval London lives on today in the Livery Companies. For centuries they wielded enormous commercial power and they still elect the Lord Mayor of London. Join us to hear about the many Medieval ceremonies still regularly performed; find out why the Lord Mayor is presented with a red rose each year, and why people in Medieval costume catch and tag the swans on the Thames, and where the expression “Baker’s Dozen” came from. Our walk starts at Guildhall Hall and passes many of the City’s livery halls, finishing at Cannon Street.
